لا شك في أهمية علم أصول الفقه وضرورته لعملية الإستنباط، ذلك أن هذه العملية لا يمكن أن تحدث اعتباطا، وإنما هي بحاجة إلى منهج يوجهها ويتحكم باعتبارها، ليقدم للفقيه النتيجة التي يمكن له من خلالها أن يعلم بالحكم الشرعي، ولما كان الأمر كذلك كان ينبغي على العاملين على تدوين هذا العلم أن يقتصر على هذه الغاية وهذا الهدف، ولكن الذي حدث ليس كذلك، فقد أخذت مادته تتسع وتتضخم وتتشعب وتتعقد لتسرب مواضيع لا علاقة لها باستنباط الحكم الشرعي كالوضع والمعنى الحرفي.
وفي هذا الكتاب صياغة لمشروع فكري لأصول موحدة لفقه الأديان المرسلة: تصف بإحاطته وشموليته ووضوح منهجه وتسلسل عناصر الفكرة وترابطها.
