يبحث في تاريخ جزيرة ابن عمر وهي مدينة إسلامية عمّرها الحسن بن عمر التغلبيّ على ضفة نهر دجلة، وذلك في بدايات القرن الثالث الهجري/ التاسع الميلادي، فشكلت محطة تاريخية وتحولات حضارية.
-وصفها المؤرخون والجغرافيون والرحّالات، المسلمون منهم والمستشرقون، بأوصاف عديدة، فذكروا مزاياها ونشاطاتها المتنوعة، وأشاروا إلى "أعمالها" التي اكتسبت قدسية لدى طوائفها، "كجبل الجودي" وقرية "الثمانون".
-تميّزت بعيش مشترك بين أجناسها وطوائفها، ومنها انطلق أول تعبير جهادي إسلامي ضد الغزو "الإستيطاني" الفرنجي (الصليبي).
-شهدت المدينة نهضة إقتصادية شاملة، وحركة تجارية ناشطة، وكذلك صراعات وإنقسامات كنتاج طبيعي لما مرَّ بها عبر تاريخها الطويل.
-عرفت نهضة فكرية وعلمية، ونبغ فيها رجال أعلام مشاهير من المؤرخين والفقهاء والمفسّرين والأدباء والشعراء، انتشروا في أرجاء الدولة الإسلامية وفي طليعتهم بنو الأثير.
-احتوت آثارها وأطلالها على بصمات حضارية إسلامية ومسيحية، الأمر الذي أعطى الصورة الواضحة عمَّا شهدته الجزيرة الفراتية وما حولها من أحداث وتطورات في عالم العصور الوسطى.
-في العصور الحديثة أصبحت المدينة ضمن السيادة العثمانية، واسمها "Cizré".
