يدور موضوع الكتاب حول الرقية الشرعية وجوارها من عدمه، ذلك أن الرقية من الأمراض ومن الإصابة بالعين ونحو ذلك هو أمر ثابت في الشريعة المحمدية كما يرى مؤلف هذا الكتاب الشيخ الدكتور جميل الحسيني – سواء كانت بالقرآن الكريم أم بالدعاء أم بغير ذلك مما أجازه الشرع. فالنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يرقي نفسه ويرقي غيره.
ولكن ما هي الرقية الشرعية الصحيحة القائمة على الإعتقاد في نفع آيات القرآن وأسماء الله تعالى، وعلى عموم ما أخبر به النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم من جواز الرقي واستعمالاتها.
في هذا الكتاب يورد المؤلف كل ما يمت من جواز الرقية الشرعية من حروز وأدعية قائمة على ما جاء في كتاب الله وسنّة نبيّه، مدعماً إياها بالأمثلة والشواهد والأخبار، ويرد على الذين يقولون بعدم جواز الرقية شرعاً بالدليل معتبراً أن "العمل بالرقية الشرعية وحمل الحروز الشرعية من باب الأخذ بالأسباب جائز وسائغ عند أهل الحق، وليس فيه أدنى شبه بالشرك (...) وكل شبهةٍ تحوم حول تحريم الرقية أو حمل الحروز الشرعية محضُ توهمٍ، والفقه يقول: لا عبرة للتوهم".
