يتناول هذا الكتاب أبرز مفاهيم وبنى السياسة الدولية المعاصرة ويستعرض أهم ما ينطرح ضمن تلك المفاهيم والبنى في قضايا وتساؤلات فرضها واقع العلاقات الدولية. ويجد القارئ في هذا الكتاب قراءة من موقع عربي للانعكاسات البالغة التي عرفتها قضايا السياسة الدولية في ظل المستجدات الجديدة ولا سيما منها: سقوط التوازن القطبي وزحف مظاهر العولمة ورسو قيم جديدة ثم تداعيات أحداث 11 سبتمبر المفصلية وإرهاصاتها. وتحاشياً لثقل الطرح النظري العام الذي قد يكون مملاً للقارئ ثم استعراض أهم المسميات المعاصرة للسياسة الدولية كل على حدة مع رصد وتسجيل ما تتضمنه مفاهيمها من المسائل العالقة والمستجدة.
ولقد تم التطرق ضمن الكتاب إلى أهم محاور واقع الحركة السياسية العالمية مع التوقف عند العناوين الكبرى التالية ومكوناتها: ديناميات التقارب الدولي وإشكالياته (العولمة، عبر القطرية، التبادل الحر...). قضايا البعد الإنساني في السياسة الدولية (حقوق الإنسان، تقرير المصير، الجرائم الدولية، الشرع المروئي،...)، إشكاليات الكيانات والبنى السياسية في العالم (الدولة، الحدود، السيادة والمساواة السيادية...)، نماذج من البنى والقوى الإقليمية (الاتحاد الأوروبي، الآبيك، الأسين...)، الصلاة القطبية وآثارها (الشيوعية، التحالفات، الكتلة،...)؟ صلاة التأزم والتصادم: (الإرهاب، الحرب، العدوان، استخدام الاقتصاد كوسيلة ضغط...).
ونظراً لذلك التمشي يمكن اعتبار أسلوب هذا الكتاب تعريفاً غير أن التعاريف الواردة فيه لا تحمل مضامين معجمية موجهة للغرباء عن السياسة الدولية بقدر ما تتضمن محاولات لاصطحاب القارئ المتعامل مع العلاقات الدولية في رحلة رصد لواقع وأبعاد المفاهيم المتطرق إليها.
