كان التحقيق ذو أهمية كبيرة لنشر كتب التراث والمصادر الرئيسية فضلت القيام به على أمل أن أستطيع رفد مكتباتنا بجزء من تحقيق كتاب تاريخيّ في غاية الأهمية، سواء نتيجة مكانة مؤلفه العلميّة، أو مناصبه التي تقلّدها، أو فترة الدراسة التي عاصرها المؤلّف، حيث كان لهذا الكتاب الأثر الكبير في بيان الأحداث التاريخية لهذه المرحلة، وأبرز الآثار السياسية والإقتصادية والإجتماعية على دولة المماليك مطلع القرن التاسع الهجري / الخامس عشر الميلادي، وتحسن الإشارة إلى أنَّ هذه الدراسة اشتملت على مبحثين سبقا النصّ المحقّق من أجل إستكمال أبعاد الصورة المتعلّقة بهذا الكتاب وأهميته.
ففي المبحث الأول: تناول الكتابة التاريخية في مصر مطلع القرن الهجري التاسع / الخامس عشر الميلادي، وهي فترة ثرية من حيث العدد والكمّ بالمؤرخين البارزين مثل ابن خلدون، والمقريزي، وابن تغري بردي، وتمّ توضيح أبرز سمات الكتابة التاريخية، والتطورات التي لحقت بها في هذه المرحلة التي عاش بها مؤلف الكتاب بدر الدين العيينيّ.
وفي المبحث الثاني: تمّ فيه إستعراض حياة العيينيّ وأبرز شيوخه وتلاميذه ومصنفاته ورحلاته العلميّة، ومدرسته، ومصادره في الكتابة التاريخية، وأبرز المناصب التي تقلّدها، مع ملاحظة أن هذا الأمر ساعد في بيان منهج العينيّ وطريقته في التأليف، ليس في التأريخ وحسب وإنما في مختلف علوم اللغة والحديث الشريف.
