يخوض ريكو ذو القدرات العقلية المحدودة، وصديقه أوسكار النابغة سلسلة من المغامرات بحثاً عن حجر «العجل» المسروق الذي أوصى به «فيتزكه» لريكو قبل أن يجدا الأول ميتاً، فيقرر الاثنان البحث عنه بدافع الوفاء لذكراه، وينتهي بهما المطاف في بحر البلطيق، حيث تقضي جوليا المرأة المثيرة للمشاكل إجازة عيد «العنصرة» برفقة صديقها جستين، فيكتشف ريكو أن صديقه أوسكار، الذي تجمعه علاقة متوتّرة بوالده، تلاعب به، وأنه أتى به إلى بحر البلطيق هادفاً إلى ترويع والده، فيفترقان ثم يجتمعان مرة أخرى لمواصلة محاولاتهما استعادة الحجر، وتبدو الفرصة مواتية لأوسكار كي يكاشف ريكو بما يدور في أعماقه، فتتوطّد أواصر علاقتهما، ويصل أوسكار بعدها إلى حالة من التوازن النفسي والعاطفي التي تكتمل في برلين، حيث تنتهي مغامرتهما بالقبض على جستين، واكتشاف ريكو أن الذكرى تكمن في القلب.
