يضع هذا الكتاب بين يدي القارئ والباحث العربي عرضاً موجزاً لكنه شامل لموضوع تتزايد أهميته في الوقت الحاضر، إذ تضمن الكتاب مواضيع عن ماء التربة لم تتطرق إليها المصادر العربية بذات العمق لحد الآن.
يبدأ الكتاب بفصل تناول بعض الخصائص الطبيعية للتربة والماء من أجل فدق وأوسع لمحتويات الكتاب، يليه فصل يبحث في طرائق قياس رطوبة التربة وطرائق التعبير عنها وطاقة ماء التربة. وتناول الفصلان الثالث والرابع الجريان تحت الظروف المشبعة والظروف غير المشبعة. وقد غلب الجانب النظري فيهما فكانت هنالك جملة اشتقاقات لكثير من المعادلات الرياضية التي تتناول حركة الماء في التربة. وتطرق الفصل الخامس بشيء من التفصيل لظاهرة الغيض (يطلق عليها في بعض أقطارنا العربية ظاهرة الرشح). ثم تناول الفصل السادس بعض الاعتبارات الثرموداينميكية لماء التربة. أما الفصل السابع فقد بحث في حركة المواد الكيميائية خلال ماء التربة. وجاء الفصل الثامن والأخير ليلق الضوء بإيجاز على علاقة ماء التربة بالنبات.
