يتناول الحديث عن أمير المؤمنين عبد الله بن الزبير رضى الله عنه، فيتحدث عن اهم صفات ابن الزبير، ونشاته، واسمه، وكنيته، وعن مولده ومبايعته للروسل صلى الله عليه وسلم. كما يتحدث عن والده الزبير بن العوام، وعن والدته أسماء بنت أبى بكر رضي الله عنهم، وعن بعض مواقفها المشهورة، وآثارها المحمودة فى تاريخنا الإسلامي. ثم تحدث المؤلف عن ابن الزبير فى عهد أبى بكر، وعمر، وعثمان، وعلى، ومعاوية رضى الله عنهم، وعن دوره فى معركة اليرموك، وجهاده فى شمال إفريقية، ودفاعه عن عثمان، وموقفه يوم الجمل، وعن مشاركته في حيش يزيد ابن معاوية الذى سار نحو القسطنطينية، ثم حركة عبد الله بن الزبير فى عهد معاوية بن يزيد ومروان بن الحكم والصراع الذى دار بينه وبين عبد الملك بن مروان وأخيرا مقتله وسقوط خلافته.
