يحاول هذا الكتاب تحديد دور ابن تيمية في الحملات الكسروانية - خصوصاً الحملة الثالثة التي أفضت إلى خراب المنطقة وتهجير أهلها - وتطور وعيه بالإرتباط بها، وأن يمرحل أدوار ابن تيمية في سياق الصراع السياسي المملوكي - الإيلخاني على بلاد الشام، في صيغة ثلاثة أدوار له، تحت أسماء ابن تيمية الأول وابن تيمية الثاني وابن تيمية الثالث، ومن ثَمَّ الوصول إلى مرحلة ما بعد ابن تيمية الثالث في القرن الثامن الهجري / الرابع عشر الميلادي الذي حلّ فيه زمان التعصب، والتحول من حقبة إحياء السنّة بالوسائل الهجيمونية، إلى فرضها بالأساليب القسرية المؤسسية، كما يحاول الكتاب الإجتهاد في وضع فتاوى ابن تيمية المتعلقة بالآخر المسلم في سياق تاريخها الإجتماعي - السياسي المحدد بهذا الصراع.
