ابتكر علماؤنا الأوائل طرائق سديدة لحفظ العلم والأوقات، واحتالوا حيلًا شرعية لتحفيز الهمم إلى شغل فراغ الطلاب ومؤنسة الجلساء، وإذكاء روح التنافس الشريف، للمفاضلة بين الأذكياء، وقياس سرعة البديهة بين النبهاء، وتعد الألغاز العلمية من أجمل تلك الطرائق، وقد شغف بها الكبار والصغار، وبات الكثيرون على مسامرة الأحاجي والمعميات وعويص المسائل والنوادر، وقد حدد العلامة حاجي خليفة (ت 1067هـ) المقصود بالألغاز، فقال "هي علم تعرف منه دلالة الألفاظ على المراد دلالة خفية في الغاية، لكن بحيث لا تنو عنها الأذهان السليمة بل تستحسنها وتنشرح إليها"، ومن أشهر كتب الألغاز "طراز المحافل في ألغاز المسائل" للإمام العالم الفقيه جمال الدين الأسنوي (ت 772هـ)، وقد اكتسب شهرة واسعة وتقديرًا كبيرًا لأنه انتقى من سابقيه وأضاف عليه من إبداعه، فأخرج إلينا كتابًا رائعًا، يعد من أهم الكتب في الألغاز الفقيه، وقد حاولنا جاهدين إخراج هذا الكتاب القيم في أبهى صورة.
