في هذا الكتاب ترتيب لأسماء الصحابة الذين روى لهم الإمام أحمد في مسنده على حروف المعجم. وقام بهذا العمل الجليل الإمام الحافظ أبو القاسم علي بن عساكر الدمشقي، فقد قام بترتيب أسماء الرواة من الصحابة والصحابيات على حروف المعجم، وترتيب من لم يسم منهم على أسماء الرواة عنهم. وهو عمل مهم كما لا يخفى على كل من رجع إلى المسند. ولهذا رأى عامر صبري نشر كتابه وخدمته، وذلك بتحقيق نصوصه وعزو مسانيد الصحابة إلى النسخة المطبوعة من المسند، وتطلب منه ذلك أن يرجع إلى المسند يفتش فيه حديثاً حديثاً، وذلك لتداخل كثير من المسانيد بعضها مع بعض.
