يعتبر التأمين من أهم الطرق الخاصة بتخفيض الخطر والمحافظة على الأمل الخاصة والعامة. ونظرا لأهمية التأمين للمشروع الإقتصادي سواء كان مشروعا فرديا أو شركة مساهمه أو منشأة حكومية فلقد لقي التأمين إهتماما كبيرا من كثير من الباحثين والكتاب فى تخصصات مختلفة نذكر منها الاقتصاد والرياضيات والقانون وتخصصات أكثر أكثر دقة مثل التأمين والعلوم الإكتوراية.
هذا وقد صمم الكتاب ليحتوى على ست فصول, الفصل الأول يلقى نظرة سريعة على مفهوم الخطر, ومسبباته, وكيفية إدارته, والتعرض أيضا لمفهوم التأمين وتعريفه والجهات التي تمارسه وأنواعه وكذلك الشروط التى يجب توافرها فى الخطر حتى يمكن التأمين عليها والفصل الثانى يعرض طرق قياس الخطر سواء من وجهة نظر الفرد أو من وجهة نظر شركة التأمين.
أما الفصل الثالث يتعرض للتأمينات العامة من خلال إلقاء الضوء على تقسيمات التأمينات العامة والصفات الخاصة بكل من الأخطار والوثائق الخاصة بها وأخيرا تسعير التأمين ومعرفة التكلفة الخاصة بتلك التأمينات. والفصل الرابع نتناول فيه التأمين على الحياة من الناحية الفنية والرياضية وكيفية حساب أقساطه الوحيدة أو أقساطه السنوية سواء صافية أو تجارية. أيضا تم تناول الإحتياطيات الصافية وقيم التصفية لوثائق التأمين على الحياة المختلفة. أما فى الفصل الخامس تحدثنا وأشرنا إلى طرق حساب أقساط إعادة التأمين وتوزيعها بين المؤمن المباشر وشركة أو الشركات إعادة التأمين, وكذلك توزيع التعويضات بين تلك الشركات. واخيرا فى الفصل السادس تكلمنا عن التأمينات الإجتماعية.
