لا تسأم أيها الأخ الكريم المبتدي، ولا تظنن أن هذا العلم أصعب من أن يفهم وما عليك في هذه المرحلة إلا أن تقرأ وتجتهد في فهم ما هو موجود، فإن أرتج عليك فهم شئ منه بعد عدة محاولات، فاتركه وامش، لأنا سنعود إلى الكلام في كل ما نقوله مرارًا، ونعرضه بطرق مختلفة، ولك أن تسأل وتبحث في الكتب، ونحن بدورنا لن نسأم أو نكل بإذن الله من الكلام مع من يظهر اهتمامًا وحرصًا على التعلم، أما واضع هذا العلم فهو ارسطو الفيلسوف اليوناني الشهير، بمعنى أنه أول من ألف فيه كتبًا، ووقع في بعض الكتب أن أسمه ارسط بكسر الهمزة وفتحتين على الراء والسين، وهو مختصر من تمام اسمة ارسطاطاليس، ولا يعيب هذا العلم أن اول من حرر فيه مؤلفًا فيلسوف يوناني، كما أننا لا نعيب على الرياضيات ما حرره فيها بعض نوابغ البشر من أمثال فيثاغورس ونيوتن وليبنز وديكارت.
فهذا علم شريف، وفضله يعرف بمعرفة أنه من مبادئ علم الكلام الذي هو أشرف العلوم، وأنه من مبادئ علم أصول الفقه، وأن منفعته وفائدته عامة في كل من العلوم، فمن ذلك أنه مفيد في إثبات بعض العقائد الدينية بالبراهين العقلية، وتزييف العقائد الباطلة الفاسدة، واستمداده من العقل كما لا يخفي على المتأمل، فإن النفس تذعن لمسائله، والعقل يوافق عليها ويجدها مغروسة فيه، ومسائله هي القضايا النظرية الباحثة عن هيئة التعريف والقياس وما تعلق بهما وسنأتي إلى بيان ذلك إن شاء الله بتفصيل حين نشرع في مسائله، أما حكم الاشتغال به شرعًا، بعد أن انتهى إلينا منقحًا غير مشوب بكلام الفلاسفة الذي فيه الحق وفيه الباطل، فهذا المنطق المحرر المحمود الذي منه السلك وشروحه، ومختصر الإمام السنوسي، ورسالة إيساغوجي لأثير الدين الأبهري، والرسالة الشمسية للكاتبي، وكتاب تهذيب المنطق لسعد الملة والدين العلامة المحقق التفتازاني.
