يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى تعريفك بالحواسيب الميكروية وإرشادك إلى الأعمال التي تستطيع القيام بها باستخدام هذه الحواسيب. كما يرشدك إلى كيفية تشغيل الحاسوب الميكروي والحصول على المعلومات التي يمكن له أن يزودك بها. والحواسيب الميكروية عبارة عن حوسيب صغيرة متعددة الأغراض، يمكنك بوساطتها ممارسة الألعاب المسلية أو رسم الصور أو تشكيل الأصوات أو عزف الموسيقى. وبالإضافة إلى ذلك، فالحواسيب الميكروية قادرة على القيام بالعمليات الحسابية المعقدة بسرعة ودقة أو قادرة على حفظ اليوميات والسجلات والشرائح وغير ذلك مما ترغب في الاحتفاظ به.
يشرح الجزء الأول من هذا الكتاب كيفية استعمال الحاسوب الميكروي، وكيفية تزويده بالبرامج التي تمده بتعلميات التشغيل، ويحتوي مدخلاً إلى كتابة البرامج المختلفة بلغة بيسك-اللغة التي "تفهمها" غالبية الحواسيب الميكروية، بالإضافة إلى الكثير من إرشادات البرمجة، وبخاصة تلك التي تتلاءم مع اهتمامك. لا تتردد في أن تجرب الاستفادة من بعض برامج الألعاب إذا كان في متناول يديك حاسوب ميكروي.
ثم يبين الكتاب كيفية تشغيل الحواسيب الميكروية وكيف تقوم هذه الحواسيب برسم الصور وإحداث الأصوات المختلفة. كما يوضح بعض وظائف الأجزاء الداخلية للحاسوب الميكروي، وينوه بدور الرقاقات في عمليات المعالجة. ويعرفك الكتاب أيضاً على كيفية ربط الحواسيب الميكروية بحواسيب أخرى تبعد عنها آلاف الأميال، بهدف الحصول على كافة أنواع المعلومات. ومن ناحية أخرى يشرح الكتاب كيفية قيام الحواسيب الميكروية بالتحكم في عمل الرابوط وسائر الأجهزة الإلكترونية الأخرى، مثل نماذج السكك الحديدية وغيرها.
وفي نهاية الكتب تجد دليل شراء يساعدك في انتقاء حاسوبك الميكروي عن طريق تزويدك بالمعلومات الضرورية عن أكثر أنواع الحواسيب الميكروية. كما يتضمن كشافاً لتفسير المصطلحات المتعلقة بالحواسيب.
