غوامض الحياة كثيرة ، بل كثيرة جداً ، وكلما ازددنا علما ازددنا جهلا بها، الظواهر الخارقة من المواضيع الرائعة التي لم يتطرق لها القلم والعقل بما يناسبها من الاهتمام بسبب الفقر المعرفي فيها، لا بل تركت لعبث المشعوذين وسياط التكفيرين أن الإنسان لا يزال عالماً غريباً معقداً، فهو والكون المحيط به مجموعة أسرار غامضة تستوجب التواضع البشري والحماس العلمي لكشف المجهول والإيمان بعظمة الخالق. إن الظواهر الخارقة هي ظواهر استثنائية تختلف عن الظواهر الطبيعية على الأقل لكونها ظواهر نادرة وغير مألوفة ، الا أن هذا المظهر بالذات هو الذي يجعل منها ظواهر ذات قيمة استثنائية للعلوم المختلفة.
يصنف العلماء الظواهر الخارقة إلى صنفين رئيسيين هما: التحريك الخارق والإدراك الحسي الفائق : تحريك الخارق ويستخدم مصطلح التحريك الخارق للإشارة إلى القدرة الخارقة لبعض الأشخاص على التأثير على جسم ما عن بعد دون استخدام أي جهد عضلي أو نشاط للجهاز الحركي في الجسم . أي بعبارة أخرى ، هي القدرة على تحريك الأجسام من غير لمسها بشكل مباشر باليد أو بأي من أجزاء الجسم الأخرى ولا باستخدام أي شيء من الوسائل التقليدية لنقل التأثيرات الحركية الى الجسم ، فالشخص الذي لديه قدرة التحريك الخارق غالبا يستطيع تحريك الأجسام عن بعد بالقيام بنوع من التركيز العقلي ، ولذلك فان هذه الظاهرة يشار أليها أيضا بالعبارة الشهيرة " العقل فوق المادة" وان كان هذا لا يعني بالضرورة ان العقل هو المؤثر الفعلي في الظاهرة .
