هذا الكتاب ثمرة تجربة طويلة من الاهتمام بفنون الطبخ والتي أصبحت مشكلة بيتية لكثير من السيدات والفتيات في تحضير الطعام ولهذا نشأت لدى المؤلفة "هدى عبد الرحمن حسن"، رغبة في إعداد كتاب سهل الأسلوب واضح الطريقة، وهو موجه إلى النساء جميعهن إلى المبتدئات اللاتي لا خبرة لهن والماهرات وإلى سائر الذواقين أيضا. متضمن عدة فصول غطت أنواعاً متعددة من الأطباق والأكلات التقليدية العربية مع عدم إغفال ما يرضي أذواقنا أحياناً من الأطباق المنوعة التي تعرضها شعوب أخرى قريبة أو بعيدة لأنها تلتقي جميعاً حول فنون وإبداعات الطبخ العالمي في عصر لا يكفي فيه الاقتصار على المطبخ المحلي مهما تفوق وتميز.
وفيما يلي ذكر لبعض الأطباق التي تم عرض طريقة إعدادها في الكتاب: فول بالسمنة، بامية بحمص، متبل قلوب الكوسا باللبن، سلطة خضرة مع الحليب، حساء الكستناء، حساء العدس مع باذنجان، حساء الفريك، فتنة اللسانات، معكرونة اللزانيا، شيخ المحشي باللبن، فطيرة القرنبيط، مناقيش بالكشك، رقاقات (البورك) أرضي شوكي مع الروستو، باذنجان مع الكفتة، قلقاس بالبندورة، بطاطا بيرية، خبيزة بالحمص، يخنة السبانخ، الكوسا بالبرغل، ملفوف بالحمص، كبة كذابة، البيض بسبوسة الفليفة، فيليه السمك مع الخضرة بالفرن، كفتة السمك، بفتاك مع الباذنجان، كبسة الدجاج أو ضلع الخروف... الخ.
