يضم هذا الكتاب بين دفتيه قصائد رثاء في الصديقة الزهراء (رضي الله عنها) بنت رسول الله محمد (ص). يدخل هذا الكتاب في باب شعر العقيدة التي يعتبرها الكاتب "إبراز العقيدة ونشرها في مقابل العقائد الأخرى"، ومن شعراء العقيدة الذين بلغوا قمة الأدب العربي بلاغة وفصاحة والذين يضيء المؤلف هنا على حياتهم وأشعارهم: الكميت بن زيد الأسدي والسيد الحميري والفرزق والعبدي ودعبل الخزاعي وأمثالهم من الرعيل الأول ...، فضلاً عما قيل في الصديقة الزهراء من قصائد لبعض الشعراء المتأخرين، وبعض أشراف مكة. كذلك يضم الكتاب مجموعة هامة من القصائد التي ذكرت فيها الزهراء رضي الله عنها من شعرائنا المحدثين.
ومن شذرات الشعر العربي الأصيل نقتطف بعضاً مما كان ينظمه الشعراء وما زالوا على اختلاف مذاهبهم وعقائدهم في نظم الشعر إظهاراً لمحبة آل بيت النبي (ص).
"روى الأربلي في كشف الغمة: أن بعض الوعاظ ذكر فاطمة (رضي الله عنها) وما وهبها الله من مزايا الجمال والكمال والفضائل العالية فاستخفه الطرب فأنشد: ، خجلاً من نور بهجتها / تتوارى الشمس بالشفق ، وحياءً من شمائلها / يتغطى الغصن بالورق.
وهكذا يحتوي هذا الكتاب على ما يزيد عن ستين قصيدة كتبها الشعراء المتأخرين والمحدثين والشيوخ الأفاضل الذين عبروا عن محبتهم لفاطمة الزهراء. وروى أنس بن مالك قال: "سالت أمي عن صفة فاطمة (رضي الله عنها) فقالت: كانت كأنها القمر ليلة البدر أو الشمس كفّرت غماماً أو خرجت من السحاب".
