يتميز إقليم "طبرستان" أحد أقاليم بلاد فارس بالطبيعة الجميلة حيث المياه الكثيرة والأنهار الجارية، والأشجار الكثيفة المتهدلة والفاكهة العديدة المتنوعة، والطيور المختلفة في أشكالها وأحجامها، وأصواتها وألوانها.
وكانت عاصمة هذا الإقليم وهي مدينة "آمل" مشتهرة بكثرة العلماء فيها، ولم يكن علماء هذه المدينة وهذا الإقليم متخصصين في علم واحد، وإنما كانوا في شتى المعارف والعلوم الإسلامية، فمنهم من كان عالماً بتفسير القرآن وقراءاته، ومنهم من كان عالماً بالحديث النبوي الشريف، ومنهم، من كان عالماً بالفقه الإسلامي، ومنهم من كان عالماً باللغة العربية وآدابها، ومنهم من كان عالماً بالجغرافيا والتاريخ.
في هذه البيئة الجميلة بطبيعتها، الثرية بأهلها وعلمائها، كان يعيش (جرير بن يزيد) الذي عرف بالورع والزهد وحبه للإسلام ورغبته الشديدة في نفع الإسلام والمسلمين.
