احتل النبي وآله صلى الله عليه وسلم أعلى منزلة في قلوب المسلمين، بل وجدنا غير المسلمين يهتمون بهم، ويعظمون شأنهم، وقد احتلت الدراسات التي كتبت عنهم مكاناً كبيراً في المكتبة العربية، وليس ذلك عليهم بكثير، فهم يستحقون أكثر من ذلك لعظيم شأنهم، فلا أحد أولى منهم بالاهتمام.
وقد ساهم الشعر العربي في التنويه بذكرهم على مر العصور، في زمانهم وبعد وفاتهم، فهناك تراث ضخم من الشعر العربي في حقهم مدحاً وثناءً ورثاءً ودفاعاً عنهم ضد خصومهم، بل ما زال هذا السيل من الشعر متواصلاً فما أكثر الشعراء المعاصرين الذين يزينون دواوينهم بذكر النبي وآله.
في هذه العجالة تم اختيار نماذج من جيد الشعر العربي الذي قيل في حقهم حيث تم تصنيفها حسب العصور من عصر صدر الإسلام مروراً بالعصر الأموي فالعباسي فعصر دول الطوائف فالعصر الحديث، وجعل في تمهيد وخمسة فصول.
زين الفصل الأول، ببعض ما قيل في حقهم في عصر صدر الإسلام، والفصل الثاني أتحق ببعض ما قيل في حقهم من شعر في العصر الأموس، وفي الفصل الثالث أسرجت مصابيح من بعض ما أنشد فيهم من شعر في العصر العباسي، وكان الفصل الرابع قد استأثر ببعض ما ضوع به الأجواء شعراء عصر دول الطوائف، وجعل الفصل الخامس لبعض ما هزج به شعراء العصر الحديث بحقهم.
