رسالة لطيفة خطتها يراعة الإمام حجة الإسلام، مجدد المئة الخامسة الهمام: أبي حامد الغزالي رحمه الله تعالى.
صنف هذا الكتاب جواباً لسؤال كما ورد في مقدمته حيث قال: (أما بعد: فقد سألتني أرشدك الله عن الأخبار الموهمة للتشبيه عند الرعاع والجهَّال، والحشوية الضُّلال؛ حيث اعتقدوا في الله وصفاته ما يتعالى ويتقدس عنه؛ من الصورة واليد والقدم، والنزول والانتقال، والجلوس على العرش والاستقرار، وما يجري مجراه مما أخذوه من ظواهر الأخبار وصورها، وأنهم زعموا أن معتقدهم فيه معتقد السلف وأردت أن أشرح لك اعتقاد السلف، وأن أبين ما يجب على عموم الخلق أن يعتقدوه في هذه الأخبار، وأكشف فيه الغطاء عن الحق، وأميز ما يجب البحث عنه عما يجب الإمساك والكف عن الخوض فيه، فأجبتك إلى طلبتك متقرباً إلى الله سبحانه وتعالى بإظهار الحق الصريح…).
فهذا الكتاب هو شرح وبيان لاعتقاد السلف، وما يجب على عموم الخلق أن يعتقدوه دون تعصب لمذهب، فالحق أولى أن يتبع، والإنصاف أولى بالمحافظة عليه، ولا سيما أن القضية عقدية، وليس للاجتهاد فيها مسرح.
وقد قسم رحمه الله تعالى كتابه إلى ثلاثة أبواب:
الأول: في بيان حقيقة مذهب السلف في هذه الأخبار.
والثاني: في البرهان على أن الحق فيه مذهب السلف، وأن من خالفهم فهو مبتدع.
والثالث: في فصول متفرقة نافعة في هذا الفن.
وبيَّن أن عوام الخلق يجب عليهم إذا بلغهم حديث من هذه الأحاديث سبعة أمور:
التقديس، ثم التصديق، ثم الاعتراف بالعجز، ثم السكوت، ثم الإمساك، ثم الكف، ثم التسليم لأهل المعرفة، وبيَّن كل واحد منها، وفصَّل ذلك كله مع ذكر الأمثلة، وأورد بعض الأسئلة والاعتراضات، وأجاب عنها بما يشفي العليل.
