صحيح البخارى واحد من اهم كتب الحديث, إن لم يكن أهمها على الإطلاق وقد دارت حول هذا الصحيح نهضة علمية كبرى قلما نجدها لكتاب آخر. فقد شرحى الكثيرون, موضحين غامضه وغريبه. بينما اكتفى الاخرون باختصاره, وانفرد آخرون بتصنيف معاجم لهذا الصحيح, كمعجم لرواته, ومعجم لبلدانه.. الخ
ومن اهم الكتب التى اختصرها هذا الصحيح كتاب الإمام الزبيدى, فقد حذف الرجل عنعنة الحديث وأسقط رواته عدا الراوى الذى سمعه مباشرة من رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم), ولهذا يعد هذا المختصر واحدا من أقرب الكتب إلى الصحيح, إذ ضم معظم أحاديثه.
