هذا سفر ضخم عن طه حسين، وهو سفر يرصد لأول مرة العلاقة بين المفكر والأمير-طه حسين والسلطة في مصر-بين عامي 1919-1973، أي منذ عاد من بعثته ليشارك في ثورة 1919 حتى رحل عام 1973.
في هذه الفترة الطويلة كانت العلاقة بين المثقف والسلطة في مصر تشهد تغييرات كثيرة قرابة قرن كامل. في وسط هذه التغييرات الضخمة عرفنا موقف طه حسين المتغير, عرفناه متمرداً قبل ثورة 1952 ومهادنا بعدها.
كان أقصى ما عرفناه كيف كان مثقفاً نبيلاً واعياً، ثم كيف أصبح-فيما بعد- طه حسين ضد طه حسين.
وهذا النموذج، نموذج المثقف/المفكر كان (النموذج) الذي تكرر كثيراً فيما بعد.. والغريب أنه في حين كان دور طه حسين السياسي عنوان أطروحة دكتوراه لي.. وبينما مثلت العلاقة بين طه حسين والسلطة رصداً رأسياً لهذه العلاقة بين المثقف والسلطة، مثلت العلاقة في إطارها رصداً أفقياً استكملته فيما بعد.
بقي أن أقول أن (الملحق الوثائقي) هنا لم ينشر من قبل، أعدت مادته الخام من دار المحفوظات-ودار الوثائق والجامعة وأوراق أمنية/الابنة.. الخ ليحقق المصداقية في هذه العلاقة الخطرة.
