كيف لي أن أستعيد صورتي الّتي تكسّرت في محاولاتي المتكرّرة لسرد الحكاية منذ البداية؟ لست أدورنو كي أرى منفاي المحاصر بالضباب والجليد فردوساً أبدياً، ولست سليم بركات كي أنصب خيمتي الأرضيّة وسط الهاوية، أنا ابن جلدتي، وابن حنطتي، وابن الخطايا الّتي ارتكبت باسم بلفور وسايكس بيكوِ والنشيد الوطنيّ المقدس، ولدت وحيداً وعلى ذراعي الشمال وشم البلاد التي تأكل أحفادها، وعلى جبيني رسم كنعاتيّ قديم يشبه المفتاح.
ثمّة أسطورة إغريقيّة تروي حكاية الهويّة الّتي تتوارى في أثواب المفارقة، كلّ ما تظهره الحكاية تخفيه في الوقت نفسه، ثمة سراب متكرر للهويّة يطفو على السطح حيناً، ويتلاشى حيناً، وبين ما تقوله الهويّة وما تخفيه باطنٌ ظاهر وظاهرٌ باطن، وكلاهما صدًى للصدى.
