الرواية من تصنيف الخيال المقتبس من الواقع و الغموض ، تتنقل أحداث الرواية ما بين ثلاثة أعوام مختلفة ( 1915 – 1993 -2002 ) رابطها المشترك الوحيد هو إسم ( ليال كروجر ) ، تبدأ بلمحة عن القسوة التي عاشتها الفتاة في طفولتها حتى تبنتها ممثلة مسرح مشهورة، الغموض يظهر عندما تتواجد الفتاة في عام 1993 و قد تعرضت للإختطاف من مجرمين يهددون بالتضحية بها لأغراض مجهولة، ويتفاقم الغموض في عام 2002 عندما يؤدي البحث عن معلومات حول (ليال كروجر) لإيقاظ لعنه شريرة.
