يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن علم التأويل فيتناول بالبحث والدراسة ما يلي من الموضوعات في هذا الشأن: التأويل علم إلهي، التأويل علم لدني، التأويل علم اختص الله به نفسه، التأويل الغيبي، التأويل الغيبي الدنيوي، الرؤيا الصريحة... والرؤيا المؤولة، الغيب الصريح... والغيب المؤول، التأويل الغيبي الأخروي، التأويل الغيبي المحتوم، التأويل الغيبي الدنيوي، التأويل اللغوي، اللفظ الرمز والتأويل.
هذا الكتاب يتناول-لأول مرة-التأويل كموضوع مستقل قائم بذاته.. لا كجزء أو كفره من التفسير.
ثم إنه يتناوله من أدق وأخطر جوانبه وهي أسراره (أسرار التأويل) فيكشف عن طريق الدراسة الموضوعية والمنهجية: أن التأويل ليس علماً مشاعاً لكل من أراد أو لكل من تصدى له من العلماء.. ولكنه "علم إلهي" بكل ما تحمله هذه الكلمة من معان.
وهذا العلم الإلهي أفاد الله به على من اجتباه من أنبيائه وهم -علة وجه القطع والتحديد: محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، ويوسف الصديق، والخضر عليهما السلام، ويلحق لهم-في التأويل اللغوي فقط-(ابن عباس) لدعاء النبي له: "اللهم فقهه في الدين وعلمه التأويل".
