دين كونتز (بالإنجليزية: Dean Koontz ) (ولد عام 1945) كاتب وروائي أمريكي، قال إنه كان يتعرض للضرب والإساءة من والده المدمن على الكحول، وفي عامه الأخير في جامعة شبينسبورغ في ولاية بنسلفانيا فاز بمسابقة الخيال برعاية مجلة الأطلسي الشهرية. بعد التخرج في عام 1967، عمل مدرسا للغة الإنجليزية في مدرسة مشانيسبورغ الثانوية في مشانيسبورغ، بنسلفانيا، وقد عرف برواياته التي تحمل صبغة تشويق غامضة. كذلك تمتزج في رواياته عناصر رعب وخيال علمي وغموض وسخرية. ظهرت عناوين بعض كتبه في قائمة النيويورك تايمز لأعلى الكتب مبيعا.

جاءت الرواية تحت عنوان "الركن الصامت" وهي من تأليف الروائي الأميركي دين كونتز وترجمة إسماعيل كاظم ومراجعة وتحرير مركز التعريب والبرمجة.
وفي الرواية: بعد انتحار الملازم غوردن، والذي لم يكن لديه أي سبب للانتحار، تقرر زوجته جين هوك المحققة في مكتب التحقيقات الفدرالية، القيام بتحقيقها الخاص، لإماطة اللثام عن الأسباب التي حملت زوجها على الانتحار، فاكتشفت أمراً غريباً، تمثَّل بارتفاع معدل الانتحار في الولايات المتحدة، لدى أشخاص ما من سبب يدفعهم لذلك، فقادتها تحقيقاتها إلى اكتشاف مؤامرة دنيئة. حيث قرر أحد العلماء وصحبه من الفاسدين أن يؤدوا دوراً لم يخلقهم الله لأدائه؛ وكان على جين خوض مغامرة لا تُحمد عقباها وفكفكة نموذج حاسوبي عالي الدقة للإيقاع بهم ووضع حد لهذا العالم المرعب.
عبر هذه الرواية سنقرأ عن عظمة خالق ودناءة بعض مخلوقاته، سنقرأ عن علماء حولوا العلم إلى سلاح غاشم، فأطاحوا بالقيم والأخلاقيات، وسنرى ونطَّلع على عبودية مستترة، وسنُقدّر نعمة الحرية التي خُلقنا عليها.
في هذه الرواية سنقرأ عن مكان يدعي أسباسيا، حيث عاث العلماء فساداً في قصر بُني على أبهى حُلة ممكنة، ولكن يد المفسدين حوّلت القصر إلى ضريح تدفن فيه الآمال والأحلام. ولكن بالرغم مما تقدم يبقى في قلب الإنسان شيء من الشفقة والرحمة لا يستطيع الأشرار استئصالهما مهما بلغت درجة مهارتهم وشرورهم.
