وقد استطاع المؤلف، بما تفرد به من حضور متميز في تراث شيخه ابن عربي، أن يجلي صفحات طويلة كانت مجهولة لدى كثيرين من العلماء والباحثين. وحسب القارئ أن يعلم أن الأستاذ شود كيفيتش-مؤلف الكتاب-قد جلس على تراث ابن عربي أكثر من نصف قرن من الزمان، يدرسه ويتعمق فيه ويستجلي غوامضه في صير يندر أن يتوافر لباحث في عصرنا هذا.
وقد جاء الكتاب انعكاساً حقيقاً لمدى معرفة المؤلف الدقيقة بخفايا تراث الشيخ الأكبر وطوايا مذهبه فى التصوف وفي معنى الولاية على وجه الخصوص. وسيدرك القارئ آثار هذا التاريخ الطويل في صحبة التراث الأكبر متوناً وشروحاً، ونشأة وتطوراً. إن هذا الكتاب يناضل في ميدانين ف آن واحد، فهو ينقض عن رؤى الشيخ الأكبر وأنظاره وعلومه كثيراً من الغبار المتراكم عليها، ويخلصها من مفهوم غير صحيحة ازدحمت عليها أيضاً عبر أزمان طويلة، ثم يعيد لتراث الشيخ وجهة الصحيح كما أراد صاحبه أن يتركه عليه.
أعد المؤلف كتابه هذا ليخاطب به الغربيين، لكن مترجمه قدمه إلى قراء العربية لفائدته الكبرى بالنسبة لهم، لاسيما أن ترجمته تميزت بالأمانة تامة وقدرة فائقة على نقل أدق دقائق النص الفرنسى إلى اللغة العربية. ولاشك فى أن قارئ هذا الكتاب يلقى بنفسه فى خضم تراث ابن عربى، الذى تمتزج فيه علوم العقل والنقل والذوق امتزاجاً عجيبا، ومن ثم لا يسعه إلا الاعتراف بأن هاهنا مستوى المعرفة يفوق كل طاقات البحث والدرس، ويقع وراء كل الحدود التى وقف عندها جهابذة العلماء والمفكرين المسلمين. إن تراث ابن عربى يتميز بأمرين واضحين، هما موسوعيته وغموضه الشديد، ومع ذلك؟، فإن هذا الكتاب الذى نقدمه اليوم من الكتب القليلة التى أخذت على عاتقها بيان مفهوم الولاية عند ابن عربى والكشف عن كثير من أسرار هذا المفهوم المركزى فى تراث الشيخ الأكبر.
