رشفة طلقات نارية من سلاح آلي. صوت طليقات فارغة ترتطم بالأرض. ثم توقف كل شئ. سمعت صوت تأوه، وصوت شئ ثقيل يسقط على الأرض. ثم بدأإطلاق النار فعلأ، صوت طلقتين ناريتين يصم الأذان. ورأيت وميض البنادق عبر الدخان. لكنني لم أتمكن من معرفة اتجاه إطلاق النار.
تحرك الشخص بسرعة عبر الدخان، واستطعت أن أرى الهيئه فقط انحنى الشخص في زاوية الغرفة ثم نهض، ثم سمعت صوت زجاج يتكسر، ورأيت قوس دخان من النافذة. وسمعت وقع خطوات على الدرج. كانت خطوات ثقيلة وسريعة.
انقشع الدخان، فوقفت وتعثرت بجثَة عميل فيدرالي على الأرض، كان هو من أعطاني القناع الواقي من الغاز. كان مذبوحاً من الحنجرة، وسلاحه مفقود، خلفه تمام كان هناك عميل ثانٍ مستلقٍ على وجهه. وهناك في الردهة، رأيت كين، كان يقف فوق جسد العميل الأخير الذي اخترق النافذة في الطابق الثاني. كان مستلقياً على السجاد، ويرتعش . أفرغ كين ما تبقى من الذخيرة في جسده، فتوقف العميل عن الحركة، عندئذٍ رمى كين سلاحه والتقط السكين وتوجه إلى.
كانت عيناه حمراوين، وتذرفان الدمع، لكنه لم يكن يكترث بذلك. رأيت بقعة داكنة على قميصه على البطن تمامأ. لقد أصيب قبل أن يتمكن من قتل العميل الأول والاستيلاء على سلاحه. وهنا أيضا لم يبدُ أن ذلك يبطئه أو يسبب له أي إزعاج.
ولا حتى القليل منه. من أي شي صُنع هذا الرجل؟
