في هذا الكتاب رواية "نجمة تائهة Étoile Errante" للروائي الفرنسي المعاصر "لوكليزيو Le Clézio" الفائز بجائزة نوبل للآداب لعام 2008. خلال صيف 1943 - في قرية صغيرة تقع في منطقة نيس الفرنسية والتي حوّلها المحتلون الإيطاليون إلى غيتو، تكتشف "إستر" المراهقة الهادئة معنى أن يكون المرء يهودياً في زمن الحرب، وتعرف معنى الشعور بالخوف والمهانة والهروب بين الجبال ثم موت والدها. وعند نهاية الحرب تقرر "إستر" ووالدتها الالتحاق بـ "دولة إسرائيل" وخلال رحلتهما على متن سفينة مكتظة تتقاذفها العواصف، اكتشفت "إستر" قوة الصلاة والدين. ولكن الأرض الموعودة لم تمنحها السلام. وعند وصولها إلى إسرائيل تصادف "إستر" وبشكل خاطف كالحلم "نجمة" الفلسطينية، لتكون شاهداً منذ وصولها على طرد الفلسطينيين إلى الضفة الغربية، باتجاه مخيمات اللجوء. "إستر" اليهودية، و"نجمة" الفلسطينية، لم تلتقيا أبداً بعدها، تبادلتا نظرة واسميهما فقط، غير أنهما في منفاهما لم تتوقف الواحدة منهما عن التفكير في الأخرى، فصلت بينهما الحرب وظلتا تصرخان في وجه تلك الحرب. يقول لوكليزيو عن روايته هذه "... في روايتي لا يمكن لإستر الخارجة من مأساة أخرى ألا أن يكون لها ضمير حي... إستر ونجمة ليستا بطلتين، إنهما فتاتان بسيطتان تتكلمان بقلبيهما وبجسديهما، ليس لهما أي مسؤولية سياسية أو أي دور اجتماعي. لم يصنع السلام أبداً من قبل الفتيات.. روايتي ليست سياسية، لا تشرح شيئاً إنها تروى لفهم الطبيعة الإنسانية، أو من القلب لا بالعقل، بالمشاعر وليس بالأفكار". "نجمة تائهة" هي أكثر من رواية، هي رحلة نحو وعي الذات الإنسانية، فما دام الشر موجوداً وما دامت فكرة اللجوء إلى العنف غير مرفوضة تبقى "إستر" و"نجمة" نجمتين تائهتين
