درس الكتاب ما أُلصق بالعربية من تهم، كالصعوبة، والشيخوخة، وعدم الصلاحية للعلم، وأبان أن ما نُسب إليها من ذلك كان بعضه في معرض التبغيض، وتسويغ الدعوة إلى التبدل بها. وبيَّن أن ليس في اللغة الإنسانية لغة صعبة بإطلاق، وأخرى سهلة بإطلاق، وأن في كل لغة ما يصعب وما يسهل، وأن صعوبة اللغة -إن فرضت صحتها- لا تسوغ التبدل بها، وإنما يجب عدُّها قدَرا، ليس للشعوب إلا التكيف معه. وليس في اللغات ما يصلح للعلم وما لا يصلح له بالطبع، وكل لغة عظيمة كانت يوما لهجة فقيرة، محدودة الانتشار، ثم صارت إلى ما صارت إليه بسلطان أهلها، وجدهم في ترقيتها. ولا معنى لشيخوخة اللغة مادامت تؤدي ما يريد أهلها، واتصال حياة العربية وقدمُها فضيلة من فضائلها؛ لأنها ربطت حاضر العرب بماضيهم ومستقبلهم، وأتاحت لهم أن ينتفعوا بأقدم تراثهم كما ينتفعون بأحدثه، وعدم اتصال غيرها جعل تراث أهلها المكتوب قبل قرون يسيرة تراثا أجنبيا، لا تفيد منه إلا كما تفيد من تراث اللغات الأجنبية بالترجمة.
