الرّؤى والأحلامُ ظاهرةٌ إنسانية، تتلازم مع الإنسانِ من الميلاد حتّى الممات، وقبل أن تندلعَ شرارةُ الحركة الصليبيّة ضدّ الشّرق؛ كثرتْ هذه الرّؤى والأحلام في الغرب الأوروبي؛ لأنّ أصحابَها ادّعوا أنّهم شاهدوا فيها السّيد المسيح أو مريم العذراء، أو أحدَ القدّيسين؛ يأمرونَهم بأمورٍ معيّنة, فاكتسبتْ هذه الرّؤى والأحلام صفةَ القداسة. وعندما انتقل أبناءُ الغرب الأوروبيّ إلى الشّرق بأسلحتهم، لم ينسَوا أنْ يحملوا معهم أحلامَهم المقدّسة؛ فكانت سلاحًا أخطرَ من أسلحتِهِم القتاليّة؛ حيث كانوا يستخدمونَها للّعب بعواطف العامّة لدفْعِهم إلى الانْخراط في الحركةِ الصليبيّة، وظلّت هذه الرّؤى والأحلام ملازمةً للصّليبيّين طوالَ وجودهم في الشّرق. فكانَ الصليبيّون إذا تهدّدتْهم المخاطر؛ تظهرُ الرّؤى والأحلام المقدسةُ لتخرجَهم مِن هذا المأزق، وطالما كانتِ الحملةُ الصليبيّة تسير بسهولةٍ ويُسْر، كانت تختفي هذه الرّؤى والأحلام المقدّسة، وهذا دليلٌ على أنّه كان يتمّ اختراعُها ونسجُ خيوطها مِن قِبَل مروّجيها, حتّى صارت من المحرّكات الأساسيّة في الحركة الصليبيّة.
وهذه الدّراسة ترصدُ هذه الرّؤى والأحلامَ المقدّسة في فترةِ الوجود الصليبيّ في بلاد الشام، وتبيّن أثرَها فى الحركة الصليبيّة.
