إن هذا البحث يحاول إلقاء الضوء على كم الأخطار المتوفر على الخرائط المساحية القديمة، ومعرفة مقدار هذه الأخطاء في مقاييس الرسم المختلفة، ومحاولة تفسير اسبابها التى ترجع في بعض الأحيان الى كبر مقياس الرسم أو صغرة، أو التغيرات في مسقط الخريطة، أو أخطاء الرسام نفسه، وغيرها من الأمور، وذلك بالتطبيق على خرائط جزيزة الذهب إضافة الى ذلك الدراسات الجغرافية المجهرية على بقع مختار من أراضى مصر تعد الأمل الوحيد للخروج بالجغرافية الى الميدان التطبيقى النفعى، للمساهمة فى حل بعض قضاياها المعاصرة، بعيداً عن التسطيح والتعميم الذى أبعد الجغرافيا عن أن تتبوأ مكانتها اللائقة في أذهان القائمين على تطوير مناهج التعليم في مصر.
