إن الفرق الشاسع بين المحدد والمطلق يفسر الفرق الكبير الذي نلحظه بين الفن الاسلامي والفنون الأخرى. فالفن الاسلامي هو فن المطلق، وفي نطاق هذا الفلك الواسع، كان الفنان حراً إلى أبعد حد في اختيار الصيغة والتكوين الذي يؤلفه ويبدعه. ولم يستطع الفن الغربي تحقيق هذه الحرية في النزعة التجريدية التي وصل إليها، فمع أنه تحرر من ربقة الواقع المحدد ، فإنه وقع في متاهات العدم. فالنزعة التجريدية ترتبط باللاشيء ولا ترتبط بالمطلق، ولذلك فإنها توقفت عن متاعبة الطريق الذي مارست فيه الحرية بعد أن وجدته مسدوداً يؤدي إلى الصفر. في هذا الكتاب نتابع العلاقة بين الجمالية الإسلامية والفن الحديث سواء كانت علاقة تأثير أو اختلاف أو غير ذلك.
