لقد تناولت الدراسة شخصية عرفت بأصولها المملوكية، ولكن إسلامها وعروبتها جعلتها تسهم في النتاج العلمي والأدبى بلغة عربية سليمة من خلال ما خلفته من كتب عديدة ككتب السير والتراجم والتاريخ والأدب والنقد والبلاغة واللغة فجاءت لتركز على دراسة أدب العصر المملوكي، واكتشاف الجانب المضئ والمشرق الذي يفوق الجانب المظلم الذي حاول الكثيرون تغليبه وجعله سمة ذلك العصر. ونظراً للظلم في إطلاق الأحكام على أدب وأدباء تلك الحقبة، جاءت هذه الدراسة لتنصف كاتباً ذاع صيته فى عصره، فوصلت شهرته إلى عصرنا الحالى نظراً لما تركه من مؤلفات كثيرة أشهرها كتابه الموسوعي " الوافي بالوفيات " الذي يقع في ثلاثين مجلداً. وفي ضوء الأسباب والعوامل السالفة الذكر فإن الأديب الصفدي جدير بالدراسة والبحث في أعماله وإبداعاته المتنوعة نثراً وشعراً.
