يعد نموذج الحضارة العربية الإسلامية من أروع نماذج "الحوار"التي دارت بين الحضارات، والذي يؤكد أن الحضارات تكمل بعضها بعضاً، ويجب أن تتعاون من أجل خير العالم لا أن تتصارع من أجل فنائه، وعلى ذلك، وفي ظل الصيحات العالمية التي تنادي بالحوار بين الحضارات، يبرز نموذج الحضارة العربية الإسلامية، كمنظومة "مهمة" لا يمكن إغفالها في هذا الصدد، بل يجب بعث مبادئها والاقتداء بها. ومن أجل هذا الغرض تأتي هذه الدراسة لتكشف عن الحوار والتفاهم الحضاري وما يتعلق بها من أطر ربطت بين المسلمين، والأمم الأخرى، وذلك في المجال العلمي الذي يعد أبرز وأهم المجالات التي تسمح بالحوار والتفاهم والتبادل الحضاري بين الأمم.
وبناءاً على ذلك يحاول هذا البحث أن يجيب على التساؤلات الآتية: هل شهد المجتمع الإسلامي انفتاحاً على علوم ومعارف الآمم الآخرى. وإن وجد، فإلي أى مدى كان تأثيره على المجتمع الإسلامي؟
ما الجسر الذي عبر عليه المسلمون إلى علوم ومعارف الآخر؟، هل حدد المسلمون منهج معين للحوار والجدل؟ وإن وجد مثل هذا المنهج، فما هو أثره في الحركة العلمية والتحاور مع الآخر؟
هل أدى الحوار مع الآخر إلى تأثير طرف واحد في الطرق الثاني، أم أنه أدى إلى التأثير المتبادل؟، هل هناك مجالات معينة يمكن اعتبارها نماذج لتأثير كل طرف في الآخر؟، وإن وجدت تلك المجالات المفترضة، فهل يمكن اعتبارها دلائل على الحوار والتفاهم والتبادل الحضاري بين المسلمين والآخر؟
