إذا عدنا لسجل تاريخ الإختراعات والإكتشافات والإنجازات العلمية، سنجد أن العديد من هذه الإختراعات أصبحت في يوم من أيام هذا التاريخ أكثر إثارة للجدل والبعض دخلت أروقة المحاكم، ليعود بحكمٍ إلى صاحبه الحقيقي بعد سنوات طويلة.
وقد تصاب بالصدمة بأن الكثير مما تعلمته وكل ما قرأته عن هؤلاء كانت معلومات خاطئة، وأن فئة كبيرة من هؤلاء المخترعين والمكتشفين إلا لصوص إختراعات وإكتشافات خانوا الأمانة العلمية من أجل الوصول إلى القمة.
وفي قصة إكتشاف (DNA) تطبيق ميداني على ذلك، فالذي اكتشف التقنية (روزاليند فرانكلين)، أما الذي كتب اسمه في الخالدين، كأعظم مكتشف، فهو (جيمس واطسون فرانسيس كريك)، وماتت بعد ذلك كمداً بعد أن تنكر لها الجميع.
ينطبق ذلك على عالمة الفيزياء جوسلين بورنيل التي اكتشفت النجوم النابضة حين كانت طالبة دراسات عليا، ولكن بقي اسم مشرفها على البحث أنتوني هويش في سجل الخالدين بعد أن حصل هذا الإكتشاف على جائزة نوبل عام 1974، وأقصيت جورسلين عن الجائزة.
شواهد وأسماء كثيرة اغتصبت وسُرقت أفكارهم وإنجازاتهم، واختفت آثارهم من الأوساط العلمية، وحُرمت من الإعتراف بحقوقها، وبقوا مدة من الزمن يعيشون في الظل، إلا أن هناك فئة اعترف بحقها العلمي، وبالرغم من ذلك بقي إختراعهم أو إكتشافاتهم ملتصقاً بالمخترع المزيف.
