إن الولاية في اللغة (بفتح الواو) النّصرة والصداقة والدنو والقرب (وبكسر الواو) الإمارة والملك والسلطان، وفي العرف الظَاهر النّيابة والقيام بأمر الشيء والقيام عليه، والولاية هي مبدأ والغاية وهي أول فرض يفرضه العلي وأول خلعة كمال يلبسها النبي ثم يلبس بعدها خلعة الرسالة.
هذه الولاية الإلهية أصلها في السماء، وفرعها في الأرض، وفي كل موجود غصن منها به يحفظ له وجوده كارهاً أو طائعاً.
وهذه الولاية حملت للولي ليقوم بها في كل العوالم، ويظهر في كل عالم بما يناسب أهله، ليتم البيان والبلاغ ولا يكون للمخلوق حجة على خالقه، وفي تلك العوالم كل أجاب بلسانه الذي جعل له بحيث لو سئل لأجاب وعبر عن إعتقاده.
