"مفارق العتمة" رواية تتناول سيرة المجتمع السعودي ما بعد الطفرة، يعالج من خلالها الروائي السعودي "محمد المزيني" علاقة الإنسان بالواقع الإجتماعي من خلال جغرافية المدينة والقرية والظروف التي تكتنف هذه البيئة وهي في طريقها إلى إكتشاف أسرار المجتمع النجدي السياسية والثقافية، عبر التردد حول المكان والزمان. يقول المزيني عن عمله هذا "مفارق العتمة- لم تقتحم أي خطاب سياسي أو فكري لا من قريب أو بعيد، بل كانت عدسة تلتقط الأشياء الدقيقة في مجتمع ينتظر جرارات التغيير على كل المستويات، فلم أكن أتبنى أو حتى أورد أي رأي أو فكرة مسبقة تصنف على البعد الإيديولوجي" وأضاف: فـ "مفارق العتمة" تناولت جيل ما بعد الطفرة ونشوء بعض الظواهر الجديدة".
وعلى هذا تأتي هذه الرواية لتختزل بين طياتها تجربة إنسان شاب عاش بداية حياته في زوبعة تقاليد أسرته.. وظل منحرفاً عنهم إلى الظلال دون أن يعرفوا عنه شيئاً؛ يمر في حياته بمواقف شتى كانت جديرة بأن تصنعه شخصاً آخر بعيداً عن التربية الصارمة التي نشأ عليها في صقره، حتى وإن كانت هذه التربية تعنى بمصلحته.. كحضور حلقات تحفيظ القرآن والذهاب إلى الصلاة مبكراً؛ ومرت السنون فإذا به يستقني عن أسرته حباً بالحرية والإستقلال.. إلى أن أصبح رجلاً صالحاً يحتذى به.
