يحتل مؤلف ريمون داجيل الذي وضعه باللاتينية بعنوان "Historia Francorum qui ceperunt Iherusalem"، أى " تاريخ الفرنجة الذين استولوا على بيت المقدس" مكانة مميزة بين مؤلفات غيره من مؤرخي الحملة الأولى. لقد عاصر أحداثها وكان شاهد عيان لها ويعتبر من أوائل من كتبوا عنها كان من كبار الفرسان المقربين إلى ريمون دي سان جيل كونت تولوز وأحد زعماء الحملة الأولى كما كان على علم بما يدور في مجالس الحرب التى عقدها زعماء تلك الحملة، الأمر الذي يضفي على كتابه أهمية خاصة تجعله لا يقل في قيمته عن تآليف زملائه ممن شاركوا فيها وكتبوا عنها.
وإن كان هذا لا يمنع من أنه في بعض الأحيان كان يتقبل ما يروى له او ما يسمعه كحقيقة ثابته. ام الوقائع الت كان شاهد عيان لها او التى شارك فيها بشخصه، فقد اتسمت عموما بالدقة والوضوح والإسهاب. وإن كانت عاطفته الدينية بالاضافة إلى كونه من رجال الدين- تجعله يتخد في كثير من المواقف جانب التحيز لبني جنسه من اللاتين الكاثوليك ضد كل من المسلمين والبيزنطنين الأرثوذكسي.
