يتوجه هذا الكتاب للقراء بصفة عامة وللمتخصصين والمهتمين بالتعليم والتدريب المهني بصفة خاصة، وهو يهتم بتسليط الضوء على ضرورة وأهمية التدريب المهني والتقني والتطبيق العملي للوسائل التعليمية في التدريب المهني والعلم التقني.
وبشكل عام جاء الكتاب متضمناً خمسة فصول تطرق أولها إلى المفاهيم الأساسية في التدريب والتقنيات، مورداً أهم نظريات التعلم وانتقال الخبرة وخصوصية التدريب وأبعاده وأهم نظرياته وطرائق استخدام التقنيات الحديثة. وأبرز الفصل الثاني مفاهيم الاتصال، ومداخل النظم في التواصل وفاعليته. وفي الفصل الثالث: تم إيضاح التطور الذي شهدته مفاهيم التقنيات التعليمية، ومن ذلك مفاهيم الوسائل والتقنيات، وظهور مفاهيم الأهداف السلوكية وأثرها على التقنيات، والتصميم التعليمي، والتعليم بواسطة الحاسوب.
وتناول الفصل الرابع: أهمية وطرق توظيف الوسائل والتقنيات في التدريب والتعليم التقني من خلال الأنواع والمزايا والمحددات، وأساليب ومعايير الاختيار. وقد أورد حالات دراسية كأمثلة لذلك. وأيضاً الآفاق المعاصرة والمستقبلة للوسائل والتقنيات التعليمية مثل: (المؤتمرات العالمية المنقولة، والانترنت، والتعلم الذاتي، والحقيقة التشبيهية).
وجاء الفصل الخامس والأخير ليشرح وسائل وطرق إدارة مراكز الوسائل والتقنيات التعليمية من خلال هذه الوحدات، وتصميم ورشها والسلامة والمهنية في استخدامها. وقد تم تدعيم الكتاب برسومات وأشكال ومخططات توضيحية زيادة في الشرح ولتوضيح بعض المواضيع، إضافة لملاحق تشمل بعض الحالات الدراسية، ومسرح بالمصطلحات المستخدمة، وقائمة بنصائح لحل المشكلات.
