شأنه شأن جميع الكتّاب الصهاينة، الذين يتناولون تاريخ الصراع مع المشروع الصهيوني، وجميع القضايا المتصلة به، وفق منظور يبدأ مع بداية الحركة الصهيونية، وينتهي إلى ما وصلت إليه تطورات الأوضاع الإسرائيلية، فإنه ينطلق أيضاً في كل رواة وتحليلاته من مقولة "شعب بلا أرض لأرض بلا شعب" التي سوّقتها الحركة الصهيونية، جعلتها مدخلاً إلى عنق التاريخ وبالتالي تجبيرة لخدمة أهدافها الإستراتيجية، وإخراج كل ما يمت للشعب الفلسطيني وقضيته الوطنية بصلة عن سيادته الطبيعي والتاريخي.
وعلى مثل هذه الخلفية فإن مؤلف هذا الكتاب "دان شفتان" الأستاذ في جامعة حيفا والمستشرق، يؤسس وجهات نظر حول جدلية الفصل والدمج أو طبيعة العلامة التي تريدها الحركة الصهيونية وتجسيدها المادي الكيان الصهيوني لاحقاً، مع سكان البلاد الأصليين، بعد أن اكتشف أن فلسطين كانت ولا تزال تعج بساكنيها الأصليين.
وإذ يطرح تصوراته في هذا الإطار خلال هذا الكتاب، فإنه يبدأ من النقطة التي بدأت خلالها الحركة الصهيونية تبحث عن موطئ قدم لها في فلسطين، باعتبارها حركة استيطانية ارتبطت عضوياً بالمراكز الاستعمارية، وهو لذلك لا يبحث عن أفضل السبل والطرق في نظم العلامة بين المشروع الصهيوني وكيانه وبين ما تبقى من أصحاب البلاد الشرعيين داخل فلسطين المحتلة منذ عام 1948 وأولئك المقيمين في الضفة والقطاع، وأن ما يفهمه المرء من خلال الأفكار الواردة فيه، أن الكاتب يبحث عن جميع السبل والوسائل التي تستطيع "إسرائيل" خلالها التخلص نهائياً من مشكلة الشعب الفلسطيني كمشكلة ذات أبعاد صراعية وطنية وتاريخية، وتحويلها إلى فرصة من المشاكل الطبيعية التي تخص بعض الكتل السكانية على المستوى الاقتصادي والاجتماعي فقط، بعيداً عن أية مسؤولية سياسية أو تاريخية أو أخلاقية عن ما اقترفته بحق الشعب الفلسطيني عامة.
