مارسيل موسّ (1872-1950) أحد أكبر روّاد النّياسة (الإثنولوجيا) الفرنسيين، كان ذا تأثير عميق في العلوم الاجتماعيّة والإنسانيّة بما خلّفه من إرث فكريّ بالغ الثّراء في علم الاجتماع الدّيني وفقه اللّغة (الفيلولوجيا) وتاريخ الأديان والنّياسة.
كتب عدّة مقالات أهمّها "مقالة في الهبة" Essai sur le don سنة 1924، و"طبيعة التّضحية ووظيفتها".
يُعَدُّ كتاب مقالة في الهبة أهمَّ النصوص في علم النيّاسة في موضوع الهبة، لكن هذا يؤكد على جودة كتابات موسّ الأخرى التي سيصدر منها تباعاً: كتاب الصلاة، وهو أطروحة موسّ غير المكتملة للدكتوراه.

ارتفعت الهبة مع موسّ من مجرّد صفة لنشاط اقتصادي إلى مرتبة "الظّاهرة الاجتماعيّة الكلّية"، وهذا هو المفهوم المركزيّ في عمل موسّ الذي كان معنيّاً بفهم الوقائع الاجتماعيّة في كليّتها. ولعلّ هذا الكتاب برهان ساطع على أنّ مقاربة مثل هذه الظّواهر الاجتماعيّة في كلّيتها تمكّننا من النّظر إليها بوصفها ظواهر عامّة متمايزة عن المؤسّسات ذات الطّابع العرضيّ أو المحلّي، كما توقفنا على واقعيّة تلك الظّواهر من حيث تمثّلها وإدراكها من قبل الأفراد والمجموعات داخل بيئاتهم المخصوصة، وتبرز بالتّالي عمليّة تشكّل الفعل الاجتماعي على أرض الواقع المعيش.
هذا هو مشروع موسّ في هذا الكتاب الذي يستمدّ قيمته من كونه أشهر نصّ في علم الإناسة وأكثرها كثافة معرفيّة، ففيه محاولة لفهم الدّوافع التي تجعل النّاس ملزمين ليس بالوهب فحسب، بل بقبول الهبة والردّ عليها أيضاً. إنّه يدرس الهبة بوصفها شكلاً أرخيّاً للتّبادل في الاقتصادات والتّشريعات القديمة في عدد من الحضارات (الهندوسيّة، الرّومانيّة، الجرمانيّة، الهنود الحمر، جزر المحيط الهادي، العرب، إلخ…) ليخلص إلى أنّ التّبادل المعتمد على الهبات وإن كان لا يدخل في إطار الاقتصادات النفعيّة التي تسودها "العقليّة الحسابيّة الباردة" في المجتمعات المعاصرة، إلاّ أنّنا لا نزال نحافظ على بعض مظاهره إلى الآن، إذ علينا أن نبدو أحياناً بمظهر "السيّد الكبير" (وهب الهدايا في الأعياد وفي حفلات الزّفاف وإقامة الولائم، إلخ…). بل إنّ موسّ يذهب إلى أنّ بعض المبادئ الحقوقيّة التي قد يذهب في الظنّ أنّها من نتاج الحداثة لا تعدو سوى ضرب من التّبادل القائم على مبدإ الهبة (الضّمان الاجتماعي، التّقاعد، الحماية الاجتماعيّة، إلخ…). فالهبة – حسب موسّ - مبدأ خالد وكونيّ، ولا ينبغي لمجتمعات السّوق المنخرطة في المنظومة الرأسماليّة المعاصرة تناسيها أو التّغافل عنها.
