محمد بخيت بن حسين المطيعي الحنفي (1271 هـ - 1354 هـ / 1854م / 1935م) الصعيدي ثم القاهري الفقيه المفسر الأصولي المنطقي الفيلسوف المحقق المدقق، ولد في القطيعة " بالقاف" من أعمال أسيوط بصعيد مصر، وهو الذي غير اسمها إلى المطيعة "بالميم" تفاؤلاً فاشتهرت بذلك، وعائلته على المذهب المالكي وهو أول من تحنف منهم.
دراسته ووظائفه
التحق بالجامع الأزهر لطلب العلم وهو صغير السن، وأجتهد في طلب العلم وكان ذا فكرة وقادة، وذهن ثاقب وحفظ جيد، فبرع في العلوم العقلية والنقلية، وتقدم على أقرانه، واشتهر ذكرهِ وذاع صيتهِ ووقع عليه الإقبال من الناس، وتوظف في وظائف القضاء في مصر ثم بالإسكندرية، ثم عين عضواً في المحكمة الشرعية ثم محكمة الاستئناف في الإسكندرية، ثم عين بمنصب المفتي في الديار المصرية، وكان مواظباً على التدريس حتى في فترة الوظيفة، حتى إنه لما كان موظفا في الإسكندرية وبينها وبين القاهرة أربع ساعات في سكة القطار الحديد كان يحضر كل يوم منها إلى القاهرة لإلقاء الدرس، ثم يعود إليها.
أساتذته
وتتلمذ على كبار الشيوخ في الأزهر وخارجه، وكان منهم الشيخ محمد عليش، وعبد الرحمن الشربيني، والشيخ أحمد الرفاعي المالكي المتوفي عام 1325 هـ، وأحمد منة الله، والسقا، ومحمد الخضري المصري، وحسن الطويل، ومحمد البهوتي، وعبد الرحمن البحراوي، ومحمد الفضالي الجرواتي، والسيد جمال الدين الأفغاني، وغيرهم. وكذلك التقى ببديع الزمان سعيد النورسي. نال شهادة العَالِمية من الدرجة الأولى في عام 1294هـ، وأنعم عليه بكسوة التشريفة من الدرجة الثالثة مكافأة له على نبوغه وفضله.
