أقدم هذا الكتاب وأنا أعلم أن الرافضين له أكثر من المتقبلين، وأعلم أن الرافضين رفضهم سابق على القراءة، وأظن كذلك أنه سوف يكون لاحقًا للقراءة.. إن تمت القراءة فعلًا؛ ذلك أن الرفض مؤسس على يقين بأن الحداثة بكل منجزاتها نوع من الإلحاد الثقافي والمعرفي، ونوع من العقوق للتراث يساوي "قتل الأب".. وربما دخل الرافضون- دون تنبه- في سياق قوله تعالى: (إنا وجدنا آباءنا على أمة وإنا على آثارهم مهتدون)!
فهل رفض الآباء كل تجليات الحداثة قديمًا وحديثًا؟ لقد حاولت جهدي أن أطرح موقف الآباء القدامى من تجليات الحداثة التي تعلقت بالشعرية عندما تمتزج بالنثرية، ثم تابعت الموقف نفسه مع الآباء المتأخرين؛ ليكون هذا وذاك بعض إضاءة (تنويرية) كاشفة لبعض الظلام؛ لأن النور الذي لا يزيل ظلمة لا يعول عليه، كما يقول ابن عربي.
