تعني عبارة بناي بريت باللغة العبرية "أبناء العهد"، وهي منظمة ما قبل الصهيونية. تم إنشاؤها في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية عام 1843 وهي لا تضم في أعضائها إلا اليهود حصراً. وينتسب إليها حالياً /1994/ ما يزيد على 500000 عضو ذكوراً وإناثاً موزعين على خمسين بلداً. وقد انتسب إليها على مر السنين نخبة المثقفين اليود بدءاً من سيغموند فرويد ومروراً بألبرت آينشتاين وانتهاء بإسحاق رابين. وهي الأقدم والأكثر انتشاراً من بين المنظمات اليهودية التي تعمل على مستوى عالمي. وهي التي أمنت اعتراف الرئيس هاري تورمان بإسرائيل عام 1948 عند إنشائها. وكذلك فإن البناي بريت هي التي حصلت من الكنيسة الكاثوليكية على صك بتبرئة اليهود من دم المسيح وجعلتها تغير التعاليم الكنسية التي استمرت زهاء ألفي عام.
وفي فرنسا، تعتبر الطائفة اليهودية الطائفة الأكثر أهمية في أوروبا كلها. وقد خرجت البناي بريت عن تحفظها الاعتيادي واتخذت مواقف سياسية عدائية علناً ضد حركة الجبهة الوطنية التي يقودها جان مار لوبين التي تنادي بتطهير فرنسا من الأغراب بمن فيهم اليهود.
وأمام مجالس البناي بريت التزم بعض رجال السياسة الفرنسيين مع اليمين واليسار بأن لا يتعاونوا مع حركة الجبهة الوطنية الفرنسية عبر ما يسمى "قَسَمْ بناي بريت".
وبما أن أعضاء هذه المنظمة يتمتعون بدعم قوي من قبل الطبقتين السياسية والفكرية في فرنسا، فقد استطاعوا أن يحصلوا على سن وتطبيق قانون فابيوس غيسّو عام 1992 وهو الذي يعاقب كل من يشكك بتعرض اليهود لحملات إبادة أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية.
إن البناي بريت، سواء في فرنسا أو الخارج، لا تزال مجهولة لدى العديد من الناس لأنها تسير في ذلك على خطى المنظمة الماسونية التي تطبق مبدأ السرية.
