في أواسط عام 1947 نشرَت الصُّحُف اللبنانيَّة نبأَ إعدام الدكتور داهش في أذربيجان بإيران، وأيَّدَته بصورتَين تمثِّلانه قبل الإعدام وبعدَه. والحقيقة أنَّ الدكتور داهش كان يُقيم آنذاك ببيروت مُحتجبًا عن الأنظار بسبب اضطهاد الدولة اللبنانيَّة الجائر له. أمَّا مَن الذي أُعدِمَ وما سرُّ النبإ الذي تناقلَتْه الصُّحُف، فإنَّ في مقدِّمة الكتاب جوابًا عن ذلك. ولمَّا انتشر نبأُ مصرع الدكتور داهش، انبرى أصدقاؤه وعارفوه إلى تأبينه بكلماتٍ مؤثِّرة عدَّدوا فيها مَناقبَه ومزاياه وما خلَّفه فيهم من أَثرٍ طيِّب. وفي الكتاب مجموع ما قيل فيه من مَراثٍ. وقد أُلحِقَتْ به نماذج من خطوط بعض الذين رثَوه
