دراسة هامة عن سياسة الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية إزاء مصر خلال الفترة 1830-1914 وهي فكرة اتسمت فيها العلاقات بينهما بالغموض وكانت تصرفات الولايات المتحدة فيها أساسها اللامبالاة ومحاولة البعد عن مشاكلها السياسية والاقتصادية وإن كانت قد اهتمت فيها بالنواحي الثقافية بوجه خاص وقد بذل فيها المؤلف جهوداً مضنية لإظهار الحقائق التاريخية مستعيناً بعدة وثائق تاريخية حصل عليها من عدة دور وثائق لعديد من الدول.
ولذلك بالرغم من أن الولايات المتحدة كانت تعتبر "القوة الغائبة" عن أحداث مصر خلال تلك الفترة إلا أن الوثائق التاريخية العلمية التي قدمها المؤلف قد كشفت الكثير من الحقائق العلمية التاريخية التي يمكن أن تغير الكثير من القناعات التي سادت بين المصريين المحدثين عن تلك الفترة.
