المسرح كفن ذي قاعدة جماهرية، يمثل بشقيه التأثيري والتعبيري"الوسيلة الأقوى فاعلية التي يمكن استخدامها من أجل تيسير عملية تحول متماثل للعقول والأنظمة".ففي نفس الوقت الذي يفتح المسرح فيه مجالات الإدراك الأدبي باللذة الإبداعية، فإنه يعلم العمل على الملأ وترجيح المجهود الفردي من أجل تحقيق الإنجاز الجماعي والاتصال الإنساني الذي يحدث تلاحماً اجتماعياً عبر الاتصال بالجمهور والحوار الروحي مع جموع المشاهدين المجهولين. ولا يكون لهذا الاتصال قيمة إيجابية إلا عندما يسلط بتفاؤل نشط الضوء على واقع المجتمع أو كما يؤكد (أندريس مالرو) عندما لا يكون هدفه الأساسي تقديم أعمال نقدرها بل أعمال تساعدنا على الحياة أو على الأقل تعطينا فكرة عن تلك الحياة الملموسة التي تفور من حولنا. لهذه الحقيقة كان الكتاب المسرحيون الإسبانو أمريكيون أوفياء فقد كانت الأحداث التاريخية لشعوبهم والأحداث الجارية المأساوية للغاية. وما زالت المداد الذي لا ينضب لأقلامهم.كذلك فإن المسرح الإسبانو أمريكي يمثل- ابتداء من النصف الثاني من القرن التاسع عشر حتى يومنا هذا- وسيلة التعبيرلإشكالية قومية وقارية عبر شخصيات وأحداث قومية هدفها موجه نحو إمكانية البحث عن خصوصيتها وإعادة خلق واقعها تاركة بذلك شهادة صادقة على العصر. هذا الكتاب في أصله حلقات إذاعية أسبوعية مدة كل حلقة عشرون دقيقة وضع خصيصاً لإذاعة أسبانيا الوطنية الخارجية ليذاع على جميع أنحاء القارة الأسبانو أمريكية إضافة إلى الجزيرة الأيبرية. وقد تلى هذا الكتاب كتاب آخر لنفس المؤلف وبنفس العرض عام 1976 ولكنه خصص لـ"أساليب ومضامين المسرح الأسباني" وقد ترجم إلى العربية لذلك جاءت هذه الترجمة تكملة للترجمة السابقة لعمل يحتاج إلى أن يتعرف عليه القارئ العربي والمهتمون بالمسرح. وهو كتاب متميز لأستاذ متخصص من أهم مؤلفي ودارسي المسرح الإسبانو أمريكي، وهو الكوبي كالروس ميجيل سواريث راديو.
