يعد وضع المرأة في أي مجتمع أحد المعايير الأساسية لقياس درجة تقدمه لأنه لا يتصور أن يتقدم مجتمع في عصرنا الحالي بخطى منتظمة مخلفا وراءه النصف من أفراده في حالة تخلف. فالمرأة تشارك الرجل حياته قبل مولده كأم ثم كشريك حياة. ثم كإبنه. ولذلك فإن تخلفها لابد أن ينعكس أثره مباشرة على تفكير الرجل ومسلكه وإن يشكل بالتالي واحدا من أهم تلك العوائق الحضارية الشهيرة التي تعرقل التنمية.
ولقد جاء التشريع الإسلامي تصحيحا لكل الأوضاع الجائرة التي عانت منها المرأة قديما وتحديدا عادلا لمكانتها في المجتمع حيث قضى على مبدأ التفرقة بين الرجل والمرأة في القيمة الإنسانية المشتركة ومنحها من الحقوق المادية والروحية ما رفع مكانتها إلى مرتبه لم تصل إلى مثلها بعد أحدث القوانين في أرقى الأمم الحديثة.
وما جاء في هذا الكتيب هو محاولة لإلقاء الضوء على موقف الإسلام من بعض قضايا المرأة في مجالات العمل والتعليم وموقفها إزاء الرجل كإبنه وزوجه وأما مما يوقف القارئ على الصورة الصحيحة والمشرقة لموقف الإسلام من بعض قضايا المرأة ومكانتها في المجتمع.
