Book Description
ظهرت رواية "نور في آب" كتصوير لمأساة الجنوب الأميركي، ويُعلن فيها السقوط الأخلاقي للرجل الأبيض بسبب عجزه عن معاملة الزنوج معاملة إنسانية، وخاصة ما يظهره في سلوكه من العنف الجنسي، حيث يتم إخصاء "جو كريسماس" البطل الزنجي في الرواية، لأنه قتل امرأة بيضاء عجوز لإنهاء علاقته المشينة معها، ويتفجّر فوكنر في هذه الرواية كل تناقضات المجتمع الأميركي.
تأثر فوكنر في هذه الرواية بالأساليب الأدبية الأوروبية في الكتابة مثل تيار الوعي، الذي كان بالنسبة إليه تقنية ضرورية من أجل تفجير العوالم النفسية لشخصياته، من خلال الإرتداد إلى الزمن الماضي وهو ما انطلق عليه بــ "الفلاش باك" في السينما، وكذلك تقنية الإنتقال في السرد من شخصية إلى أخرى، مازجاً كل ذلك بالمونولوج الداخلي الذي يبعث أصواتاً متعددة للشخصيات.
